Wilma Rudolph

Wilma Rudolph set records in the 100 and 200 meter dash. She competed in both the 1956 and 1960 Olympics. Wilma Rudolf became an international sensation with her performance in the 1960 Rome Olympics. She was an African American icon and inspired many young athletes. This was critical especially during the Civil Rights Movement in which African Americans were fighting for equal rights, dignity, and respect.
